Technology (TECH)
I own an iPhone, an iPad, and frequently use social media--and yet I am barely at the foundational level in this competency area. I use basic Microsoft software (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) as a graduate student and Residence Director, but I need to become more skilled in new technologies. In my internship, I learned how to use Baseline, which is an assessment tool through Campus Labs. As I continue my position at Medaille, I hope to utilize different social media platforms for networking purposes and student engagement--if not learn effective methods for my future full-time position. I realize that sites like Twitter and LinkedIn provide great opportunities to converse about topics in student affairs with graduate students and professionals on a much larger scale. One of my professional development goals from now until I graduate next Spring is to learn how to create videos to present topics related to disability in higher education. Skills such as those are becoming requirements for positions in disability services, which motivate me to become more technologically proficient.
