Student Learning and Development (SLD)
I am in-between the foundational and intermediate level in this competency area. Taking a Student Development and Learning course my first semester in my program taught me the theories that support my profession and their importance. While program planning as an RA, I was required to use the Frameworks for Assessing Learning Development Outcome (FALDO’s), which brings theory-to-practice. During my internship at the Griff Center, I learned new theories that are often used by the staff including Levitt Sanford’s Challenge and Support Theory and and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. One of my professional goals is to craft and implement learning outcomes for Medaille’s Residence Life staff, specially with the Resident Assistants. My mission as a supervisor is to build intentionality within the RA position, so that there is evidence of learning and growth. As I continue my education, I intend on learning more about different theories to create an inclusive and welcoming campus that fosters student development and success.
