Advocate. Student Affairs Educator. Motivational Speaker.

Law, Policy, and Governance (LPG)
As a Residence Director, I am familiar with campus policies and student conduct. As a disability advocate, I have participated in advocacy initiatives to enforce disability laws and policies. I would consider myself slightly at the foundational level in this competency area. During my internship I learned more about how to explain disability legislation, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 to students and their family members. Most do not realize that policies change when students with disabilities transition from high school to college; therefore, it is important for student affairs educators--especially those in Disability Support Services--to know what those changes are, and be proactive in communicating them to students and faculty. As I pursue a career in Disability Services or Residence Life, my goal is to become more educated on policies and laws that would apply to these respective functional areas.
