Personal and Ethical Foundations (PPF)

My disability has become a distinctive trademark in my personal and professional identity. It has brought me to an intermediate/advanced level of proficiency in this competency area, because I have chosen to use it as a tool for personal development. I developed a program during my undergraduate career called “Beyond the Blind Side,” (see tab above for more details) where I challenge others to confront their greatest weakness in order to discover their greatest strength.

My internship at the Griff Center for Academic Engagement at Canisius College has taught me more about ethical principles and issues related to students with disabilities. Specifically, I was able to engage in coversations with students that challenged my own personal beliefs and identity as a professional. My supervisor guided me out of my introversion to a more confident position where I was more present to those I served while in the office. She taught me the importance of understanding habits of wellness that involved tending to personal needs, which directly impact professional performance
